At Resonance

What to Expect

Please note: This is a rain or shine event

Regardless of the weather, we will carry on. It is recommended that you prepare for a very wide range of temperatures and conditions, as Kansas weather can be unpredictable. Waterproof vulnerable gear in advance, and bring plenty of sunscreen!

Parking

No parking passes will be issued for this property. There is one street running into the property; cars will be able to enter, unload, and exit via this street. All cars must be returned to the parking area immediately following unloading. Car & RV campsites will be located adjacent to the parking area.

Walk-in Camping

Camp without cars! No vehicles or RVs are allowed. The majority of camping will require a short walk. Your efforts will be rewarded with an iconic view and a chance for true solitude. You will be able to drive a straight line into the property before needing to pull over and unload. Doozers will be around to help anyone who needs assistance transporting their gear to or from their campsites.

Water & Ice

Ice is the only commodity bought or sold at Resonance. The ice truck will be located near the center of the Burn (please see map for details). The price of ice is determined on a seasonal basis and will be announced nearer to the event. Payment may be made in cash (preferred), or through PayPal.

Water

There is one water spigot located near the center of the property. Please be mindful of spillage and do not create a swampy mess.

Department of Mutant Vehicles

Please note that Mutant Vehicles at Resonance are currently restricted to 1,200 lbs. Register with the DMV here

Campfires?

That’s a negative. There may be a community campfire area on concrete platforms near the entrance to the event, though this is not guaranteed. Uncontained fires are a major hazard on the Kansas plains. Safety third, toasty s’mores fourth.

Water or extinguishers must be readily available for small, contained, off-the-ground cooking fires. Be aware that if the winds are greater than 15 mph, danger of fire and likelihood of spreading fire is greater. Dry conditions should also be monitored for high winds/prime fire conditions.

No Early or Late Arrivals

In the interest of a work/play balance for our valued volunteers, we have strict gate hours. You will not be able to enter the event outside of these hours without prior written approval and arrangements made with Gate Lead.

When You Arrive

You stop at Education, to brush up on your burner knowledge, get consensual welcome hugs, win nifty gifties, and start waking up that inner child you’ve shown up to spoil.

Next is Gate, where you’ll need your Driver’s License or other Photo ID to claim your ticket and receive your wristband. (Note: Use of other forms of ID is possible but must be arranged in advance.) The name on your ticket must match the name on your ID; if the ticket(s) are held by another participant, that individual must provide written or verbal consent to confirm the transfer.

Gate Hours

Volunteer

The best way to keep us running a tidy ship is to volunteer

  • We will have an optional CPR certification class (Scheduling in progress) For anyone interested in volunteering for either a Medic or Ranger shift.
  • We will have an attendance-encouraged Safety, How-to, and Response Training (SHART) held again at Sandy’s seashore, followed by a time for everyone to socialize, relax, and enjoy the scenery! While we’re there, we’ll also be conducting a brief inventory check by all department leads and/or their designated crews.
  • There will be a mandatory fire safety meeting for fire spinners and fire art safety team volunteers, time and place TBD by our 2024 Procession & FAST leads.

LEAVE NO TRACE

We are grateful for this stunningly beautiful location and are equally committed to respecting and protecting this special place. Leaving No Trace is one of our shared Principles.

There is no garbage collection service at Resonance. It is up to each of us to remove all Matter Out of Place (MOOP). Our lease allows us a short period of time to restore the grounds to their original condition. We can only satisfy these stipulations and pass inspection if ALL citizens share the responsibility of Leaving No Trace by MOOP sweeping our camps, art projects, and pathways. If you need help, visit the Earth Guardians.

  • The following items are most likely to become MOOP: glitter, feathers, rhinestones, sequins, Astroturf, styrofoam coolers, plastic bags, paper, string, disposable drink cups, hay bales, straw, gravel — or anything that can blow away in the wind.
  • If you must buy single-serving drinks, choose aluminum cans over glass bottles.
  • Aluminum cans can be recycled at Recycle Camp.
  • Carry a MOOP bag everywhere you go. LNT applies to the entire area, not just your camp.
  • If you smoke, bring a pocket ashtray like a mint tin to collect cigarette butts and ashes (yes, ash is MOOP!).
  • Kitchens, construction areas and workspaces generate the most MOOP. Packing a tarp to lay down in those areas can save a lot of clean-up time.
  • Rope and other tie downs are required for securing everything in your camp and for strapping anything on top of your vehicle for the trip to or from the playa.
  • A plastic milk or water jug with a handle is ideal for collecting MOOP around your camp (which you should do throughout the week).

Location

The 2024 burn season is starting with a bang! We’ve secured a new home for Resonance – Atlas Ad Astra Missile Silo in Wilson County, Kansas

This is a decommissioned soviet-era development site where the world’s first ICBM (Intercontinental Ballistic Missile) was born. Eventually, the model constructed on these grounds was re-purposed to propel a weather satellite into orbit around Earth. We think it’s very burner-esque to alter something once so destructive, repurposing its components in such a noble and nerdy pursuit. Even better, our host is transforming the now-empty silo into a source for education and fun. We hope this impressive place will continue to house Resonance for some years to come, and we need your help!

All-Ages Policy

As a Radically Inclusive event, Resonance does not have any age requirements for Participation. There are, however, areas within the burn which are strictly for adults ages 18+ to enjoy. The pathway(s) to these areas are not staffed, supervised or guarded; all parents and guardians are responsible for supervising their children at all times, and for preventing their children from accessing adults-only areas. We do not imply or accept any responsibility for what your child may witness or experience in any area of the event.

Property Theft and Damage

Participants should be aware of the potential for property theft from vehicles and campsites. Each person is ultimately responsible for the security of all their belongings. Everyone is encouraged to get to know their neighbors – this is the best way to prevent property crime.

Cameras and Photos

Whether participants are capturing images for personal or professional use, the photographer is responsible for respecting the consent of the participants they wish to record. If a photographer is asked to stop filming, they must do so immediately. Photographers have the responsibility not to interfere with the immediate experience of other participants.

Vehicle Safety

No driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The speed limit throughout the event is 5mph. Please have others outside of the vehicle guide you if the vehicle is large, has a limited field of vision, or is hazardous to pedestrians. Parking permits will be issued for limited areas of the burn, and cars without parking permits are expected to make their way safely to the parking lot as soon as they are unloaded.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are Children Allowed at Resonance?

Absolutely! Resonance is a radically inclusive, all ages event. To preserve the ability of everyone at the burn to enjoy the principle of radical expression, children will not be permitted in certain areas at any point during the burn. Children must be closely supervised 100% of the time.

  • Is Clothing Required at Resonance?

To guarantee adherence to local regulations, the Burn is split into two areas; a general admission/all ages area where clothing covering genital areas is required, and an 18+ clothing-optional zone.

  • Can I vend at Resonance?

Nope! If you want to sell something at Resonance, you can volunteer for our Cool Dept. Otherwise, feel free to contact us about vending during one of our other events.

  • Can I choose where I camp at Resonance?

If you are registering a theme camp (offering at least one event or interactive activity to the burn community), you can request specific placement parameters. Otherwise, you will be able to camp in designated open camping areas (which is a considerable amount of space).

  • Is volunteering mandatory at Resonance?

Nothing is mandatory, except for respecting your fellow Burners. We view volunteering as a fantastic way to respect the time and experience of everyone we’re burning with, and we highly recommend the experience.

  • What if I have more questions about Resonance?

You can find our Facebook page here, where community members can answer your questions. Alternatively, you can contact our Board members through our organization’s page here, or with the info at the top of this page.

  • How much are the tickets?

General Admission: $60

Child (2-12) and Senior (70+): $30

Infant (0-2): Free

  • Can I bring my dog to Resonance?
